AECTP First Aid Trainer Course Evidence Collectors

The role of evidence collectors is to facilitate the practical assessment of candidates. Evidence collectors are provided with assessment records and information on how to set up, conduct, and document the practical assessment. Completed documents and supporting evidence (photos) will be emailed by the evidence collector to the AECTP for review and approval.

To be an evidence collector, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be employed by a full member PTE as a first aid trainer and actively engaged in training; and
  • Either:
    • A Training Manager; or
    • An experienced trainer (at least 3 years) and actively leading trainer training / development within the full member PTE.

The evidence collector role is voluntary. By being an evidence collector, you support the AECTP vision of driving quality in first aid training across New Zealand. At this stage, neither the evidence collector nor the PTE they work for receives financial or non-financial reward for being an evidence collector.

While you can be an evidence collector for trainers in the PTE you are working for, there is clear expectation that evidence collectors make themselves available for a reasonable number of assessments of trainers outside their own organisation. It is not acceptable for evidence collectors to only make themselves available to assess candidates from their PTE. If we notice that an evidence collector repeatedly declines requests for candidates outside their PTE, the AECTP will revoke their evidence collector status.

As an evidence collector you must have access to the following equipment and use it for all practical assessments:

  • Choking infant manikin
  • QCPR adult manikin with tablet / ipad
  • QCPR child manikin with tablet / ipad
  • QCPR infant manikin with tablet / ipad
  • A suitable Trainer AED. Models other than those listed here may be suitable, however, they need to be approved by the AECTP before use. Currently approve Trainer AEDs are:
    • Laerdal Trainer AED
